Linux VPN How-To and Technology Links
Although I have spent many a day behind the keyboard of various Linux machines I have not had to use the VPN (Virtual Private Networking) functions of the OS much. During my research recently I took note of the quality resources on various Linux VPN technologies and am posting here to help others looking to move to a Linux based VPN system:
1) Set up a Linux VPN server by following these 10 steps
This article at techrepublic.com gives a nice 10 step process of setting up a VPN server on a RedHat system. Very detailed and in my testing worked first time.
2) Linux VPN Solutions and Tools
This site provides a nice glossary and overview of VPN and Security terms for those getting started in networking or those looking for a refresher.
3) Linux VPN Masquerade How-To
Quoted from the site:
How to configure a Linux firewall to masquerade IPsec- and PPTP-based Virtual Private Network traffic, allowing you to establish a VPN connection without losing the security and flexibility of your Linux firewall’s internet connection and allowing you to make available a VPN server that does not have a registered internet IP address. Brief information on configuring the VPN client and server is also given.
The official Linux IP Sec How To, very nice in different formats, etc.
Very nice Linux VPN How To. Very well organized. Bookmark this one.
Thanks for reading my list, hopefully these links will help you.
